RS-485 is a serial communication standard that defines parameters such as the electrical characteristics of the signal and the transmission rate.RS-485 is a standard developed by the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) for use in industrial environments to allow multiple devices to communicate on the same bus.

The RS-485 standard has the following features:

1. multipoint communication: allows multiple receivers to be connected to the same bus, thus enabling many-to-one or one-to-many communication.

2. Differential signals: The use of differential signal transmission improves signal immunity, especially in industrial environments where the noise environment is more complex.

3. common mode interference suppression: the transmission and reception of differential signals have a strong suppression effect on common mode interference, which makes RS-485 very suitable for environments with serious electrical interference.

4. Long distance transmission: RS-485 supports long transmission distance, usually up to 1200 metres.

5. High-speed transmission: Standard RS-485 supports transmission rates up to 10Mbps, while high-speed RS-485 (such as RS-485A) can support higher rates.

The RS-485 communication interface usually contains two wires - one is A (or positive) and the other is B (or negative). In practice, there is also usually a ground (GND) and power (VCC) wire.

What is an RS485 type sensor?

Sensors with an output of RS485 are sensors that transmit data using the RS485 communication protocol, a differential signal output serial communication protocol that uses a pair of twisted pairs of wires to transmit data, supports long-distance transmission and multi-node connections, and has high immunity to interference and stability.

This output for RS485 sensors usually have the following characteristics:

1. High anti-interference ability: RS485 signal output using differential signal transmission, enhanced resistance to common-mode interference, improve signal stability and reliability.

2. Long-distance transmission: The transmission distance of RS485 can generally reach 1200 metres, and under special circumstances, it can even reach thousands of metres, which is very suitable for application scenarios that require long-distance transmission.

3. Multi-node connection: RS485 interface allows multiple devices to be connected to the bus, which can easily build a multi-point communication network to achieve data sharing and collaborative work between multiple sensors.

4. Multi-functionality: RS485 sensors are usually integrated with a variety of functions, such as smoke alarm sensor, temperature monitoring sensor, humidity monitoring sensor, etc., which can achieve comprehensive environmental monitoring and alarm functions.

5. Easy installation: RS485 sensors usually have a simple installation method, can be easily installed in a variety of buildings and places, but also has an automatic calibration and self-test function to ensure the accuracy and stability of the sensor.

Sensors with RS485 output are widely used in industrial control, building automation, data acquisition and monitoring. They achieve real-time monitoring and control of environmental parameters by transmitting real-time environmental data to a central processor or monitoring system via a bus.

It should be noted that although RS485 has many advantages, its limitations need to be considered in practical applications, such as the balance between the communication rate and the transmission distance, as well as the limitation of the number of devices on the bus. Therefore, when selecting and using RS485 sensors, it is necessary to carry out reasonable configuration and planning according to specific application scenarios and needs.
