Product Details

TG452 is an industrial IoT edge gateway designed to collect data from mixed field equipment, process selected values locally and forward usable data to a remote server, SCADA system or IoT platform. Its combination of RS485, RS232, Ethernet, digital and analog I/O makes it suitable for projects in which one cabinet must connect several sensor types without adding a separate converter for every interface.

For NiuBoL monitoring projects, the gateway sits between the sensing layer and the application layer. RS485 Modbus sensors for weather, soil, water quality or industrial environment monitoring can share field buses, while Ethernet and 4G provide upstream communication. This arrangement gives system integrators one point for device polling, register mapping, local buffering, alarm logic and remote maintenance.

Project Role and Integration Value

A conventional cellular router can provide an Internet connection, but it does not necessarily solve field-side protocol and data-management requirements. TG452 is intended for installations where the gateway must communicate with instruments, normalize data and maintain operation when the wide-area network is unstable. Local processing can reduce unnecessary traffic, while local storage and retry logic can help preserve records during temporary communication interruptions.

  • Field acquisition: connect RS485/RS232 instruments, Ethernet devices, digital contacts and selected analog signals.

  • Protocol conversion: bridge Modbus RTU field equipment to Modbus TCP, OPC UA or a project-specific cloud data format.

  • Edge processing: filter, aggregate, calculate or package values before transmission.

  • Backhaul flexibility: use 4G cellular or Ethernet, with optional Wi-Fi depending on the ordered configuration.

  • Remote service: support remote configuration, diagnostics and firmware maintenance when enabled in the selected software package.

Hardware Interfaces for Sensor and Controller Integration

The interface set is the main reason to select TG452 instead of a simple router. Three RS485 channels allow integrators to separate device groups by function, baud rate or physical area. Two RS232 channels support legacy instruments, and four RJ45 ports provide one WAN and three LAN connections for local controllers, HMIs or IP instruments. Optional I/O should be confirmed during ordering because relay, CAN, Wi-Fi, GPS and storage requirements can affect the final configuration.

Communication and Protocol Compatibility

TG452 supports the two protocol families most often required in industrial sensor projects: serial Modbus RTU on the field side and Ethernet-based communication on the supervisory side. Modbus TCP and OPC UA are available for controller or software integration. MQTT, cloud connectors and custom JSON payloads can be implemented through the selected software or secondary-development package; these functions should be confirmed against the firmware supplied for the project.

Application Configurations

The gateway is most useful when the integration plan starts from the field signals rather than from the cellular network alone. The following configurations illustrate how TG452 can be matched to NiuBoL monitoring applications.

ApplicationField ChallengeTG452 IntegrationResult for the User
Automatic weather stationSeveral Modbus sensors, remote site and intermittent mobile coverageGroup meteorological sensors on RS485, buffer readings locally and transmit by 4GOne managed collection point with fewer site visits and controlled data intervals

Installation and Commissioning Checklist

  1. Confirm the ordered configuration. Check the cellular module, regional bands, SIM format, optional Wi-Fi/GPS, CAN, relay output and storage before installation.

  2. Select the enclosure. IP30 is suitable for protected indoor cabinet use. Outdoor, dusty or wet sites require a higher-rated external enclosure with ventilation and surge planning.

  3. Mount the gateway. Use DIN rail or a stable desktop position, leaving clearance for antennas, Ethernet plugs, terminal blocks and service access.

  4. Design the power circuit. The input range is 5–35 VDC; a 12 VDC / 1.5 A supply is standard. Use a stable supply, correct polarity, grounding and project-appropriate surge protection.

  5. Segment RS485 buses. Group devices by baud rate and physical route. Assign a unique Modbus address to every slave and apply termination/biasing according to cable length and topology.

  6. Configure the uplink. Set APN and SIM parameters for 4G, or configure WAN/LAN addressing for wired deployment. Verify DNS, time synchronization and firewall rules.

  7. Build the tag map. Record slave ID, function code, register address, data type, byte order, scale factor, engineering unit and polling interval for every parameter.

  8. Test failure recovery. Disconnect the WAN or cellular link, confirm local buffering and verify that stored data is forwarded without duplicate timestamps after reconnection.

Selection and Ordering Guide

A complete quotation should be based on the project interface list, not only on the model name. Before ordering, provide the number and type of sensors, communication protocol, register map, sampling interval, destination platform, deployment country, power source and enclosure conditions. This information determines whether the standard TG452 configuration is sufficient or whether optional hardware and software are required.

FAQ

Q1: Can TG452 read NiuBoL RS485 Modbus sensors directly?
Yes. Sensors can be connected to the RS485 channels when their power supply, slave address, baud rate, parity and register definitions are correctly configured. A project tag list should be prepared before commissioning.

Q2: Does TG452 convert Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP?
Yes, this is a standard integration pattern for the gateway. The exact mapping and operating mode should be defined according to whether the upper system acts as a Modbus TCP client or receives gateway-published data.

Q3: Can it send data by MQTT?
MQTT can be implemented through the selected firmware or secondary-development package. Confirm broker address, TLS/authentication, topic structure, payload format and reconnect policy before shipment.

Q4: Is TG452 suitable for outdoor installation?
The device is rated IP30, so it should not be exposed directly to rain, condensation or heavy dust. Use an outdoor-rated cabinet with appropriate thermal management, cable glands, grounding and surge protection.

Q5: How many RS485 devices can be connected?
The practical quantity depends on bus length, cable quality, device loading, baud rate, polling interval and response time. Use unique slave IDs, daisy-chain topology and proper termination; split large or mixed-speed networks across the three RS485 channels.

Q6: Does every TG452 include Wi-Fi, GPS, CAN and relay outputs?
No. Several functions are optional or configuration-dependent. The purchase specification should explicitly list every required interface and software function.

Q7: What information is needed for a project quotation?
Provide the deployment country, sensor list, interface count, protocols, platform endpoint, sampling interval, storage requirement, power source, cabinet environment and any development requirements.

Q8: Can the gateway continue collecting data when 4G is offline?
Local processing and storage support offline operation when configured. The required buffer period, timestamp method, retry sequence and duplicate-data handling should be included in the acceptance test.

Engineering Summary

TG452 is a practical choice for projects that need more than cellular routing. Its three RS485 channels, two RS232 channels, four Ethernet ports and configurable I/O allow one gateway to coordinate mixed sensors and controllers. For reliable deployment, procurement should lock the hardware options, regional cellular module, firmware functions, register map and platform protocol before production. This approach produces a gateway configuration that can be commissioned predictably and expanded as the monitoring system grows.
