IoT & Comm. Devices
NiuBoL provides IoT gateways, data loggers, RTUs, DTUs and communication devices for collecting sensor data and transmitting it to PLC, SCADA, cloud or private-server systems.
These devices are used with weather, soil, water-level, water-quality, air-quality and other field sensors. Depending on the selected model, interfaces can include RS485 Modbus, RS232, analog inputs, digital inputs, relay outputs, Ethernet, cellular communication, Wi-Fi or other project-specific connections.
The correct device depends on whether the project needs only data transmission, local data storage, protocol conversion, multiple sensor inputs, relay control, remote communication or integration with an existing cloud platform.

Indoor LoRaWAN Gateway for LoRa Device Sensors
Industrial LoRaWAN Gateway – 15 km Coverage, Cloud-Ready, IP67 GW5000A
These devices can overlap in function, but they are not identical. The best choice depends on how many sensors must be connected, whether data must be stored locally, what communication protocol is required and where the data must be sent.
| Device Type | Main Function | Typical Use |
| Data Logger | Collects, records and stores sensor data, often with multiple input interfaces | Weather stations, environmental monitoring and multi-sensor projects |
| RTU | Remote field acquisition and control for sensors, digital inputs and relay outputs | SCADA, hydrology, pumping, utilities and industrial monitoring |
| DTU | Transfers field serial data through a remote communication network | Simple RS485 / serial-to-cellular transmission where advanced logging is not required |
| IoT Gateway | Aggregates devices and can perform protocol conversion or cloud connectivity | Multi-sensor IoT systems and third-party cloud / private-server integration |
| Router | Provides network connectivity for Ethernet or Wi-Fi devices | Sites that already have network-capable controllers or gateways |
Sensor interfaces and remote communication are different layers of the system. RS485 Modbus, RS232, 4–20mA, voltage and digital inputs are normally used between field sensors and the data-acquisition device. Cellular, Ethernet, Wi-Fi or LoRaWAN are used to move collected data between the field station and a remote platform.
Sensor → RS485 / Analog / Digital Input → Data Logger / RTU / Gateway → 4G / Ethernet / Wi-Fi / LoRaWAN → Cloud / SCADA / Private Server
This distinction is important when selecting equipment. A basic RS485 sensor does not automatically include 4G, while a cellular gateway does not automatically support every sensor interface.
Some NiuBoL data loggers and gateways can transmit collected data to customer-owned systems using common IoT communication methods such as MQTT, HTTP, TCP or API-based integration. Exact protocol support depends on the selected model and firmware configuration.
If you already have your own cloud platform, SCADA system or database, confirm the required payload format, authentication method, server address, port, encryption requirement and data-upload interval before selecting the communication device.
| Project Type | Typical Architecture |
| Single RS485 Sensor | Sensor → DTU / Gateway → Cellular Network → Server |
| Multi-Sensor Weather Station | Weather Sensors → Data Logger → 4G / Ethernet → Cloud / Private Server |
| Agricultural Monitoring | Soil + Weather Sensors → Gateway / Logger → Remote Platform |
| Hydrology / Water Monitoring | Level / Flow / Rain / Water Quality Sensors → RTU / Logger → SCADA / Cloud |
| Industrial Monitoring | RS485 + Analog + DI / Relay → RTU / Gateway → SCADA / PLC Network |
| Selection Item | Information to Provide |
| Sensor Interfaces | RS485, RS232, 4–20mA, voltage, pulse, DI or other interfaces |
| Number of Devices | Number of sensors and whether they share one RS485 bus or use separate ports |
| Local Storage | Whether local buffering or removable storage is required during network outages |
| Remote Network | 4G, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN or another communication method |
| Server Protocol | MQTT, HTTP, TCP, API or project-specific protocol requirements |
| Control Requirement | Whether relay output, alarm logic or remote control is required |
| Power Supply | Available DC power and whether solar / battery operation is required |
A1. RS485 only provides the local digital interface. A data logger, RTU or gateway is still required if the project needs storage, remote communication, protocol conversion or cloud transmission.
A2. Yes, when the selected gateway supports the bus design and each compatible Modbus device has a unique address. Power capacity, cable topology and polling intervals must also be considered.
A3. Selected loggers and gateways can support third-party platform integration. Confirm the required MQTT, HTTP, TCP, API, security and payload-format requirements before ordering.
A4. Select a model with suitable local buffering or storage if data continuity during network outages is required. Storage behavior and upload-after-reconnection functions depend on the specific device.
A5. No. A router mainly provides network connectivity, while an IoT gateway can also collect field-device data, convert protocols or prepare data for remote platforms depending on the model.
A6. Provide the sensor models, interfaces, number of devices, required communication network, cloud or server protocol, storage requirement, power supply, installation environment and quantity.
For selection, provide the sensor interfaces, number of connected devices, local storage requirement, remote communication method, server protocol, power supply, installation environment and quantity. If you already have a cloud platform, include the communication protocol and sample payload or API requirements.
