NiuBoL recently supplied the NBL-S-THR soil temperature and moisture sensor for a project in Serbia. The sensor is used to measure soil temperature and volumetric water content, helping users build a more reliable data basis for irrigation review, field monitoring and agricultural research.
Serbia has important agricultural production areas and diverse field conditions, including grain, fruit, vegetable and greenhouse cultivation. In these environments, soil water status and soil temperature can directly affect irrigation decisions, crop growth observation and seasonal field management.
The supplied NBL-S-THR round-type sensor measures temperature from -50 to 100 deg C with 0.1 deg C resolution and +/-0.5 deg C accuracy. It measures soil moisture from 0 to 100% VWC with 0.1% resolution and +/-3% accuracy. The project configuration used DC 12-24 V power supply, 4-20 mA output, -40 to 80 deg C operating environment, IP68 protection, TDR principle and a 20 m cable.
The round probe structure and protected cable configuration are suitable for field installation where the measurement point should remain stable over time. For project teams, this helps make soil moisture data more comparable because the sensor position, depth and cable routing can be documented during installation.
Soil temperature and moisture data can support irrigation timing, crop-growth observation, drought-risk evaluation and greenhouse substrate monitoring. For system integrators, the sensor can be connected to controllers, data loggers or monitoring platforms according to the selected output signal and project wiring design.
Compared with manual soil checks, continuous sensor data makes it easier to compare trends across days, fields and irrigation zones. This is useful for farms, research teams and engineering contractors who need records for operation review and system acceptance.
Before installation, the project team should confirm sensor depth, measurement location, cable protection, receiver input type and data recording method. If the sensor is connected to a logger or platform, the channel name should include field location and depth so that historical data can be interpreted correctly.
The Serbia project demonstrates the practical use of NiuBoL soil temperature and moisture sensing in agricultural and environmental monitoring. NiuBoL can support procurement teams and integrators with sensor selection, output matching and project-oriented configuration for field data systems.
