NiuBoL has delivered an integrated soil-monitoring package to Germany consisting of NBL-S-TMC-7 seven-parameter soil sensors and a TG451 IoT gateway. Unlike a handheld inspection order, this package is intended for a wired data path: sensors at field level, RS485 communication, gateway conversion and onward network access.
The probes measure soil temperature, moisture, conductivity, pH and EC-derived N, P and K reference values. The TG451 provides the connection layer between serial field devices and an IP network. That pairing is useful when a project needs several monitoring points and gateway-based data forwarding.
| Component | Confirmed interface or rating | Role in the project |
|---|---|---|
| NBL-S-TMC-7 soil sensor | DC 5-24 V; RS485; 9600 bps; IP68 | Collects seven soil parameters at field measurement points |
| TG451 IoT gateway | RS232, RS485, RJ45, USB, DI, DO and Wi-Fi interfaces; optional cellular/storage features depend on configuration | Connects the RS485 bus to Ethernet or configured wide-area communications |
| Protocol conversion | Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP gateway capability | Allows an IP-side host to access serial sensor data after mapping and testing |
| Gateway power | 12 V/1.5 A nominal; 5-35 V DC input | Must be included in the cabinet power budget |
Multiple sensors can share an RS485 trunk only when each device has a unique Modbus address. Before installation, the integrator should record the address assigned to each physical location. The serial settings must match across the bus, including baud rate, parity, data bits and stop bits. The order data identifies 9600 bps for the sensor; the final register map and serial format should be checked against the shipment documentation.
Bus layout matters. Use a daisy chain instead of a star where practical, keep A/B polarity consistent, provide a common reference where required, and apply termination according to cable length and site noise. Soil probes may be IP68, but the gateway is an indoor/cabinet device with IP30 protection. It belongs in a dry enclosure with suitable grounding, surge protection and service access.
A sensible factory or bench test polls each sensor separately, changes its address, then connects the devices to the same bus. The gateway should be tested for Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP conversion using the actual register addresses. Finally, disconnect and restore sensor power to confirm that the gateway and host recover without manual reconfiguration.
The NBL-S-TMC-7 product page specifies a temperature range of -40 to 80 degrees C, moisture range of 0-100%, conductivity range of 0-10,000 microS/cm, NPK display range of 0-2,000 mg/kg and pH range of 0-10. As with the portable model, the NPK channels are derived from EC using empirical factors. They are appropriate for comparison and trend monitoring, not a replacement for laboratory nutrient analysis.
After receipt, site acceptance should verify probe placement, cable routing, sensor addresses, gateway mapping, data continuity and enclosure conditions. NiuBoL can provide the sensor and gateway documentation needed by the PLC, SCADA or platform engineer.
Yes, if the bus design and power budget are suitable and each sensor has a unique address. Confirm the maximum bus length, cable type, termination and polling interval for the actual site.
No. The serial parameters and register mapping must be configured and tested. Modbus compatibility defines the transport, but it does not remove the need to map each register and engineering unit.
Not without a suitable enclosure. The sensors are rated IP68, while the quoted TG451 has IP30 protection and should be mounted in a dry cabinet with controlled wiring and surge protection.
Provide the sensor configuration, cable lengths, supply voltage, gateway network method, cellular band if required, protocol destination, cabinet scope and delivery postcode.
Record live values from every configured address, verify Modbus TCP mapping, test recovery after power and network interruptions, inspect probe locations and retain the final address/register schedule.
This Germany delivery is a multi-point monitoring system rather than a stand-alone sensor sale. RS485 probes supply field measurements; the TG451 provides the gateway layer. The engineering value depends on address planning, register mapping, cabinet protection and recovery testing. Those details should be settled in the RFQ and acceptance record, not left until the probes are already buried.
