Product Details

NBL-CHLO-406-S Optical Fluorescence Online Chlorophyll Sensor

Product Overview

The NiuBoL NBL-CHLO-406-S online chlorophyll sensor is an integrated optical sensor that utilizes the fluorescence characteristics of chlorophyll a to achieve high-precision continuous monitoring of phytoplankton biomass in water. The sensor has a built-in temperature compensation function and can simultaneously output chlorophyll concentration and temperature data, providing a reliable basis for eutrophication assessment and dynamic changes of algae in water bodies.

The sensor has a sturdy structure, stable performance and low maintenance requirements. It is particularly suitable for deployment by system integrators and engineering contractors in environmental monitoring stations, aquaculture farms and scientific research projects. NiuBoL is committed to the research and development of industrial-grade IoT water quality sensors. Through high-stability digital output, it helps users build real-time and reliable water environment monitoring networks to support ecological protection and production decision-making.

NBL-CHLO-406-S Online Chlorophyll Sensor Core Advantages

The NBL-CHLO-406-S focuses on long-term stability and integration convenience in engineering applications. The main technical advantages are reflected in the following aspects:

  • High-precision optical measurement system: Adopts leading optical technology with a measurement range of 0~400μg/L, resolution of 0.1μg/L, accuracy of ±3% (chlorophyll) and ±0.3℃ (temperature). Two-point calibration ensures high measurement linearity, fast response and small drift, suitable for long-term online use.

  • Strong environmental adaptability and protection capability: IP68 protection rating supports submerged installation up to 20 meters underwater. The 316 stainless steel housing has excellent corrosion resistance and is suitable for freshwater, seawater and various industrial water bodies. Operating temperature 0~50℃, built-in temperature sensor realizes automatic compensation to improve data reliability in complex environments.

  • Low power consumption and anti-interference design: Power consumption is only 0.2W@12V. The low-energy feature facilitates solar power supply or remote deployment. Digital signal processing effectively suppresses interference such as ambient light to ensure stable signals.

  • Easy integration: Standard RS-485 interface follows Modbus/RTU protocol (optional 4-20mA output), which can be directly connected to existing automation control systems or IoT platforms without complex conversion. Low installation distance requirements (side wall >3cm, bottom >10cm) make on-site deployment flexible.

  • Easy maintenance and long-term stability: The measurement window is simple to clean and maintain, and frequent calibration is not required. The sensor has undergone 72-hour aging and stability tests. The internal precision optical and electronic components are designed to be maintenance-free, reducing the full life cycle cost.

These advantages enable the NBL-CHLO-406-S to maintain data consistency in water algae monitoring projects, significantly reducing operation and maintenance investment, and meeting the strict requirements of engineering projects for reliability and real-time performance.

NBL-CHLO-406-S Online Chlorophyll Sensor Application Scenarios

The NBL-CHLO-406-S online chlorophyll sensor is widely used in water environment monitoring and aquaculture management. It can serve as an important indicator parameter for algae biomass:

  1. River, Lake and Marine Environment Monitoring: Deployment in environmental water quality automatic stations to track changes in chlorophyll a concentration in real time, provide early warning of water bloom risks, and assess the eutrophication status of water bodies.

  2. Aquaculture Water Quality Control: Monitoring of algae density in ponds, cages or factory farming systems to optimize feeding and water exchange and prevent the impact of excessive algae reproduction on cultured organisms.

  3. Drinking Water Source Protection: Continuous monitoring at lake and river water intakes to detect abnormal algae growth early and ensure water supply safety.

  4. Scientific Research and Ecological Investigation: Providing high-resolution continuous data in river, lake and ocean survey projects to support phytoplankton dynamic research and ecological model construction.

  5. Wetland and Landscape Water Body Management: Water quality monitoring in urban parks and artificial wetlands to maintain ecological balance and control algae outbreaks.

  6. Emergency Response to Sudden Pollution Events: Combined with multi-parameter water quality sensors to quickly assess the impact of organic pollution or nutrient input on algae growth.

Combined with other NiuBoL water quality sensors (such as COD, turbidity, dissolved oxygen), it can form a comprehensive multi-parameter water quality monitoring solution and enhance the overall value of the system.

NBL-CHLO-406-S Online Chlorophyll Sensor Installation and Wiring

Installation Requirements

  • The sensor should be submerged vertically or in a suitable direction. Keep the front end more than 3cm away from the side wall and more than 10cm away from the bottom to avoid interference from walls or the bottom.

  • It is recommended to install in flowing or stirred water areas to ensure the measurement window fully contacts the water to be measured.

Electrical Wiring (4-core shielded twisted pair)

  • Red wire: Power positive (12~24VDC)

  • Black wire: Ground (GND)

  • Blue wire: RS-485 A

  • White wire: RS-485 B

  • Yellow wire: Current output (4-20mA, leave floating when not in use)

After wiring, please carefully check to avoid reverse connection or short circuit. When the cable is immersed in water (including seawater) for a long time or exposed to air, all wiring points must be waterproofed, and cables with certain corrosion resistance should be selected. Confirm the wiring is correct before powering on to ensure safe operation of the equipment.

Maintenance Guide

The cleanliness of the measurement window is critical to accurate readings. The sensor outer surface can be rinsed with tap water. Residual dirt can be wiped with a soft cloth dipped in mild household detergent. Avoid excessive tension on the cable during normal operation to prevent internal wire breakage. There are no user-maintainable parts inside the sensor. Do not apply severe mechanical impact.

Calibration Method:

  • Zero point calibration: Place the sensor in distilled water (use a brown beaker, front end distance from bottom ≥10cm), stabilize for 3-5 minutes and then perform zero point calibration.

  • Slope calibration: Place in standard solution, stabilize and then perform slope calibration.

Please refer to the operation manual attached randomly for specific operation instructions. Calibration frequency should be determined according to the requirements of the competent authority or actual usage conditions.

FAQ
