A temperature and humidity sensor works by detecting air temperature and relative humidity at the installation point and converting those values into a signal for a controller, logger or monitoring platform. For procurement, the main issue is whether the installed point represents the air condition that the project needs to manage.
Temperature describes the thermal condition of the air around the probe. Relative humidity describes the amount of water vapor in the air relative to saturation at that temperature. Because the two values interact, the sensor should be placed where ventilation, sunlight and heat sources do not distort the target condition.
The sensor provides field data to an acquisition device. In greenhouse, warehouse, weather station and industrial monitoring projects, the receiver may be a PLC, RTU, data logger or communication gateway. NiuBoL model selection should confirm output and protocol from the current product document.
| Decision point | What to check | Procurement value |
|---|---|---|
| Installation point | Airflow, shade, height, enclosure and distance from heat or moisture source. | Controls whether data represents the controlled area. |
| Output | RS485, Modbus RTU or another supported signal by model. | Defines receiver compatibility. |
| Protection | Outdoor shield or enclosure when required by the site. | Reduces exposure-related faults. |
| Data interval | Control loop, alarm record or long-term trend. | Defines logger and platform settings. |
| Maintenance | Dust, condensation, cable check and comparison record. | Protects long-term data value. |
In greenhouses, the sensor supports ventilation, heating and humidity management. In warehouses, it helps protect materials that are sensitive to moisture or temperature change. In weather stations, it provides basic meteorological data. In industrial sites, it can serve as environmental reference for equipment rooms or process areas.
It is not enough to install one sensor wherever wiring is convenient. Large rooms, shaded outdoor sites and crop canopies may need multiple points or carefully selected mounting positions.
For greenhouse control, the buyer should also confirm whether the sensor value will only be displayed or used to drive fans, vents, humidifiers or alarms. Control use requires more careful channel naming, update interval and fail-safe logic because a wrong value can trigger equipment operation. For storage rooms, the practical concern is usually historical records and alarm thresholds rather than fast response.
When several temperature and humidity sensors are installed in one project, addresses and labels should be prepared before commissioning. A clear point name such as north bay, seedling room or cabinet inlet is more useful than a generic channel number during maintenance.
Q1: How does this sensor work in a monitoring system?
It measures air temperature and relative humidity, then sends the signal to a controller, logger or platform.
Q2: Can it connect to a PLC or RTU?
Yes, if the selected model output and protocol match the PLC or RTU input requirements.
Q3: Why does installation position matter?
Direct sun, poor airflow, walls, machinery and wet surfaces can make the reading different from the target air condition.
Q4: What should buyers confirm before ordering?
Confirm indoor or outdoor use, output type, cable length, power supply, mounting method and data receiver.
Q5: What should acceptance verify?
Verify live values, units, channel names, alarm logic if used, upload interval and installation photos.
Q6: When is a weather station more suitable?
Use a weather station when temperature and humidity must be recorded together with wind, rain, pressure or radiation.
A temperature and humidity sensor is useful only when its location, output and data workflow match the project. NiuBoL selection should be based on mounting condition and receiver compatibility.
