Traditional chroma measurement often suffers from turbidity interference, biological attachment, and reagent consumption, resulting in unstable data, frequent maintenance, and complex integration. The NiuBoL NBL-COL-408-S online chroma sensor adopts dual-wavelength optical compensation technology and automatic cleaning design, effectively solving these engineering pain points and providing system integrators and engineering contractors with a high-precision, low-maintenance, and easy-to-integrate online chroma monitoring solution.
Dual-Wavelength Automatic Compensation: One measuring light path and one reference light path, with intelligent algorithms eliminating turbidity and particulate interference for more stable chroma measurement.
Built-in Automatic Cleaning Brush: Effectively prevents biofilm attachment, reduces manual maintenance, and ensures long-term continuous operation.
Digital Integrated Output: RS-485 Modbus/RTU protocol supports seamless connection to PLC, SCADA or IoT platforms, with optional 4-20mA analog output.
The NiuBoL NBL-COL-408-S online chroma sensor is designed based on the dual-wavelength visible light absorption method. It combines 470nm measuring light with reference light to accurately measure water chroma while outputting turbidity parameters and performing interference compensation. The product requires no chemical reagents, is environmentally friendly, compact in size, and suitable for submerged online installation to achieve uninterrupted water quality monitoring.
The sensor adopts digital signal processing, featuring fast response, small drift, and high stability. Even in long-term submerged environments, it maintains reliable measurement performance. The built-in cleaning brush effectively suppresses microbial attachment, significantly reducing on-site maintenance costs. It supports RS-485 interface and standard Modbus/RTU protocol for easy system integration; optional 4-20mA current output meets the access requirements of different control systems.
This sensor is particularly suitable for industrial wastewater, domestic sewage, and natural water body monitoring projects with strict requirements for chroma indicators, helping engineering teams build low-cost and highly reliable online water quality monitoring networks.
Optical Measurement and Algorithm Optimization: Adopts dual-wavelength visible light absorption method. One visible light path is used for chroma measurement, and one reference light path is used for turbidity monitoring. A dedicated algorithm provides real-time compensation for optical path attenuation, effectively eliminating the interference of particulate suspended matter on chroma measurement and improving data reliability.
Automatic Cleaning Function: Equipped with a mechanical cleaning brush that can automatically clean the measurement window at scheduled times or as needed, preventing biofilm and dirt accumulation and significantly extending the maintenance-free cycle.
Hardware Protection and Materials: The sensor housing uses 316L stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance; IP68 protection rating supports long-term underwater immersion (working pressure <0.1MPa). The M16-5 core waterproof connector ensures reliable connection.
Low Power Consumption and Anti-Interference Design: Power consumption is only 0.2W@12V. It uses digital signal transmission and shielded cable, effectively resisting electromagnetic interference and suitable for complex industrial site environments.
Easy Integration: Standard RS-485 Modbus/RTU protocol supports multi-sensor networking; optional 4-20mA output is compatible with traditional analog systems. The two-point calibration method is easy to operate, and calibration parameters are stored inside the sensor for convenient maintenance and replacement.
Long-term Stability: Response time <30s, minimum detection limit 2 Hazen, small drift. It maintains high accuracy even during continuous operation, reducing calibration frequency.
These advantages make the NBL-COL-408-S an ideal choice for building efficient and reliable water quality monitoring systems, particularly suitable for application scenarios that require simultaneous attention to chroma and turbidity indicators.

1. Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants: Real-time monitoring of effluent chroma and turbidity to assist process adjustment and ensure compliant discharge.
2. Industrial Wastewater Treatment Systems: Online monitoring for high-chroma wastewater in printing and dyeing, papermaking, chemical and other industries to optimize treatment processes and reduce exceedance risks.
3. River, Lake and Surface Water Environmental Monitoring: Submerged installation at monitoring sections to achieve synchronous continuous monitoring of chroma and turbidity, supporting data collection for smart water platforms.
4. Drinking Water Sources and Water Supply Networks: Monitoring changes in water chroma to timely detect organic pollution or abnormalities and enhance water supply safety assurance.
5. Industrial Circulating Cooling Water Monitoring: Combined with turbidity data to assess water quality, prevent equipment scaling and corrosion.
During installation, it is recommended to hang or fix the sensor in an area with steady water flow, submerged at least 30cm below the lowest water level to avoid air bubbles attaching to the measurement window. The sensor measurement area should face the water flow direction and be fixed horizontally and firmly. In areas with turbulent flow, additional fixation is required to prevent impact. It is recommended to add a protective sleeve outside the cable. The installation depth is generally not more than 2 meters.
Electrical Connection (5-core shielded cable):
Red wire → Power positive (12~24VDC)
Black wire → Ground (GND)
Blue wire → 485A
White wire → 485B
Yellow wire → 4-20mA current output (optional, leave floating if not in use)
Before powering on, please carefully check the wire sequence. All wiring points must undergo strict waterproof sealing treatment, and cables with certain corrosion resistance should be selected to adapt to long-term underwater or humid environments.
