 I. Project Background: New Demands for Meteorological Monitoring in Industrial Plants 

Shanghai, located on China's eastern coast, features a typical subtropical monsoon climate with distinct seasons, high humidity, and variable weather. In particular, in riverside, coastal, and large industrial zones, meteorological parameters such as wind speed, wind direction, pressure, temperature, and humidity directly impact production safety, ventilation system operations, emission control, and energy management. 

The factory in this project is a large-scale precision manufacturing enterprise with a vast plant area and dense equipment, making it highly sensitive to environmental parameter changes. Previously, the plant relied mainly on traditional mechanical anemometers and separate temperature and humidity sensors, but faced the following issues:

- Equipment dispersion leading to high maintenance costs;

- Discontinuous data collection, making networked analysis difficult;

- Low accuracy in wind speed and direction measurements, failing to meet the needs of intelligent ventilation system control. 

To address these challenges, the factory chose to deploy the Niubol 5-in-1 Ultrasonic Integrated Weather Sensor (NBL-W-51MUWS) to achieve real-time, automatic, and precise meteorological data monitoring. This integrates with the plant's central control system (SCADA) to optimize the production environment and energy regulation.

The Niubol 5-in-1 Ultrasonic Integrated Weather Sensor is a fully digital, multi-parameter, high-precision meteorological detection instrument.

 III. Working Principle: Precise Wind Field Measurement Based on Ultrasonic Technology 

The core of this sensor is ultrasonic wind speed and direction measurement technology.  

It calculates wind speed and direction by measuring the time difference of ultrasonic wave propagation between four directions (North N, South S, East E, West W). 

When wind blows from the north, the transmission time of ultrasonic waves from N to S shortens, while from S to N lengthens. By comparing the propagation time differences in the north-south and east-west directions, the computer derives the wind speed magnitude and direction angle. 

This method offers the following advantages: 

- No mechanical wear: Unaffected by blade resistance, ensuring long-term stable operation;  

- Strong anti-interference capability: Unaffected by temperature or humidity;  

- Fast response speed: Real-time output of instantaneous and average wind speed;  

- Suitable for extreme environments: No freezing jams or dust accumulation errors.

 IV. Deployment and Application Scenarios in the Factory 

In this project, the Niubol weather sensor is installed on the roof of the main factory building and near the exhaust systems. It connects to the plant's environmental monitoring system via RS485 interface, enabling real-time data collection and centralized display. 

Key applications include: 

1. Automatic Ventilation System Adjustment  

   The sensor monitors external wind speed and direction data in real-time. The control system automatically adjusts damper openings based on airflow changes to achieve energy-saving ventilation.  

   For example: When external wind speed is high and wind direction favors exhaust, the system automatically reduces fan power to save electricity. 

2. Temperature, Humidity, and Pressure Monitoring  

   Real-time tracking of air temperature, humidity, and pressure changes in the plant to prevent excessive temperature differences from affecting precision equipment operations. In constant temperature and humidity workshops, data can directly feedback to the air conditioning system for automatic regulation. 

3. Emission Monitoring and Airflow Diffusion Analysis  

   Wind direction data provides a basis for gas emission systems. Managers can determine exhaust diffusion paths based on airflow direction and adjust exhaust strategies in time to reduce environmental risks. 

4. Safety Alerts and Emergency Response  

   When pressure drops suddenly or wind speed exceeds set thresholds, the system automatically issues alarms and links with the production line safety control system to take protective measures in advance. 

5. Plant Microclimate Research  

   After long-term data accumulation, climate curves and trend reports can be generated to support plant energy consumption analysis, ventilation optimization, and emission planning.

 V. System Integration and Operational Effects 

The sensor's standard MODBUS protocol data is integrated into the factory's SCADA system, collected and displayed in real-time via PLC.  

The monitoring center can view current wind speed, temperature, humidity, and pressure trends in graphical form, and set upper/lower limit thresholds for intelligent alarms.
