Weather measurements for environmental records

Air, wind, rainfall and illumination instruments describe conditions above the ground. They can form part of a weather station or a wider environmental system when their outputs match the selected acquisition equipment. Mounting exposure, radiation shielding and rain-gauge level remain important to the resulting record.

Soil and leaf-surface monitoring

The soil instruments provide channels for root-zone conditions, including temperature, moisture, conductivity, salinity or pH according to the model. Leaf wetness sensing adds a different observation: moisture on a leaf-like surface. That measurement can support canopy studies alongside temperature and rainfall.

Comparable applications include greenhouse cultivation, field research and irrigation monitoring. Parameters and sensor positions should follow the crop and monitoring objective rather than treating every agricultural point as equivalent.

Online pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen

The water instruments provide continuous values at an installed sampling point. pH describes acidity and alkalinity, conductivity responds to dissolved ions, and dissolved oxygen measures oxygen conditions in the water. The appropriate range, material, mounting and maintenance method depend on the water and process.

For surface water, treatment or aquaculture applications, a representative point and safe access for cleaning are part of the installation. Continuous readings complement the reference checks or laboratory methods required by the project.

Combining several sensor groups

The selected instruments can connect to compatible loggers, PLCs, RTUs or gateways. Confirm the actual interface and Modbus RTU support for each ordered model, including supply, address, register scaling and unit. A common data platform still needs distinct channel definitions for weather, soil and water measurements.
