Water quality monitoring equipment should be selected by measured parameter, installation method, communication output and maintenance requirement. A useful project package connects sensors with the data system and the actual water process.
Common project parameters may include pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, conductivity, residual chlorine, ammonia nitrogen, COD or other water indicators depending on the site. The parameter list should follow the control or reporting purpose.
| Project need | Possible parameter group | Selection check |
|---|---|---|
| Aquaculture | DO, pH, temperature, ammonia or turbidity | Immersion and cleaning access |
| Water treatment | pH, ORP, residual chlorine, turbidity | Sampling point and calibration |
| Surface water | COD, ammonia, turbidity and general water data | Range and fouling risk |
| Industrial process | Conductivity, pH or custom parameters | Material compatibility |
| Data system | RS485/Modbus, logger or platform | Protocol and units |
For online monitoring, confirm whether the sensor is immersion type, flow-cell type or installed in a sampling loop. The wrong installation method can make a correct sensor unusable.
RS485/Modbus output is common for digital integration, but the integrator still needs address, register map, polling interval, unit mapping and power supply details.
Maintenance should be part of the purchase scope. Water probes may require cleaning, calibration checks and protection from bubbles, sediment, biofouling or chemical attack.
The monitoring point should be chosen with the process flow. A sensor installed in stagnant water, a turbulent discharge or a chemical dosing zone may not represent the water quality that the project needs to manage.
For comparison between suppliers, align installation accessories and documents. Flow cells, brackets, cleaning tools, calibration guidance and protocol files can change the real project cost.
Select by water type, measured parameters, expected range, installation method, output signal, maintenance access and receiving data system.
Only if the project decision depends on one parameter. Many projects require several parameters and a logger or controller.
Confirm protocol, address, baud rate, register map, unit, cable length, power supply and whether multiple probes share one bus.
Bubbles, sediment, fouling, poor calibration, wrong sampling point, loose cable or unsuitable installation can create unstable readings.
Send water type, target parameters, expected range, installation site, output requirement, cable length, power supply and platform need.
Verify live values, units, timestamps, communication, sampling point, calibration records, alarm rules and maintenance handover.
Water quality monitoring equipment selection is a system decision. Parameter fit, installation method, protocol compatibility and maintenance determine project value.
