A separate RS485 or analog sensor is usually only responsible for "measuring and outputting", truly sending data to the Internet, requiring a data collector, gateway, or communication terminal to complete protocol resolution and networking.
If a third-party LoRaWAN node is used, the node must be able to read the sensor's RS485/Modbus registers or analog inputs and encode the data into a LoRaWAN uplink load. The frequency band also complies with the regulations and operational requirements of the country or region where the project is located.
MQTT, HTTP belong to the data transmission protocol on the IP network side. Most standard RS485 sensors do not send MQTT directly; " Modbus acquisition → JSON/structured data MQTT/ HTTP upload" → is usually completed by the gateway.
When remote monitoring is required, the NiuBoL data collector or IoT gateway can be used to connect the sensor and upload the platform; there are already projects with self-built servers, and MQTT, HTTP, TCP and other uplink methods can be configured according to the selected communication equipment.
Products directly related to such projects include Smart Data Collector, NiuBoL data collector series.
Q1: Does the sensor itself have an API?
A1: Separate RS485 sensors typically provide communication protocols and register tables. The API is typically provided by a data platform or gateway system.
Q2: Is the SDK mandatory?
A2: Usually not mandatory for standard Modbus devices. The master device can read the data according to the public registers and protocols.
Q3: Can I access the ThingsBoard, AWS, or self-built MQTT server?
A3: It depends on whether the gateway supports the appropriate network protocol, authentication method and data format. The sensor itself only needs to be read steadily by the gateway.
Q4: Will the data be lost after the network is disconnected?
A4: Depends on whether the selected collector has a local cache and post-recovery patch mechanism. When selecting a project, the offline time and storage capacity should be considered together.
